Question
On the 30th of June i had one mouse that had 19 total babies. some died just because there were so many babies for one mom and they were all pretty small to begin with. but then on the 5th of july i had another mom give birth to 9 babies. about a week after the 19 babies were born the mom all of the sudden started acting really weird and would run in circles around her cage and try to jump up the sides of it. then within minutes she started laying on her side and breathing really hard then would get up and run around and try to jump up the sides again. then she plopped over again and died. we thought it was really weird and we couldnt figure out why she died. i tried giving the babies to the other mom hoping she would adopt as many as she could... and she did adopt most of them. some just ended up dieing. but now some of the babies are starting to walk around and have their eyes open. well tonight when i came home i noticed that one of the babies from the litter from the mom that died is doing the same exact thing that the mom was doing before she died. he is running around REALLY fast and slamming into the sides of the tank and trying to climb up the sides. then he will just stop and not do anything and sometimes plop on his side. he hasnt died at this point. but i would like to know what on earth could be wrong with him? it seems like the same thing that was wrong with his mom. but what do you think it is? thank you so much for any information you may have!!!

Answer
Dear Felicia,

I'm not a vet, but it sounds to me like your mice have a genetic defect that causes a kind of seizure.  There's nothing you can do if this is the case.  I hope that this the only mouse who got it from his mom, but it's likely you will see this again.  I'm very sorry.
