Mouse was cold

Question
hi,
My mouse (she is a wild mouse that i rescued from my cat a while ago) is acting sick, she was coldish when i picked her up from her cage, so i thought she was dead, but i started to stroke her fur, to say goodbye, you know?  She twitched, and cracked open an eyelid.  At that point i was sure something was wrong, i put her in my hands and kept stroking her fur.  I took her into her emergency cage,(which is much smaller, very transportable) and put her up in my room (until that time was has been in the garage).  II continued to stroke her and after a while she managed to lap up some water from my hand, and hobble a little bit.  I haven't noticed anything unusual lately, is she sick, or just going into hibernation, or something close.  I'm really worried, could you please help?

Answer
Dear Dasiy (Daisy?),

Your little mouse is very sick.  However, she might survive.  Whenever something goes wrong with a mouse, the first thing that happens is that it can't keep itself warm.  Then when it gets cold, it can't fight off the problem.  Thus, sometimes when you warm up a cold mouse, it is able to solve the rest of its health problem.  Other times it is just too sick.  If you can't take her to the vet, the best thing to do is keep her warm and, if she is a sweet mouse, make her feel loved.  Make sure she is comfortable in an area with no stress and has easy access to food and water.

I truly hope your little mouse heals.
