Sootys bad eye

Question
Hi, i have a pet mouse called sooty who is about a year and a month old. about 3 days ago i picked him up and noticed his eye had gone a kind of cloudy, milky white colour. After researching on the computer me and my mum suspected it as cataracts. Today when i picked sooty up, his eye was no longer cloudy, but it was a kind of reddish colour. He scratches around the eye area a lot, so maybe he scratched his eye and got an infection? Also, he wont go in his house, i think it is the bedding because i ripped up plain kitchen roll because we ran out but we are going to buy some more. Apart from all this, he seems perfectly normal. Is it an infection and do we need to take him to the vet? Thank you, (Ps, sorry i dont have a picture, if you need one, say and i will get one for you)

Answer
Hi Natalie,

That does sound like an eye infection - in fact, everything you've deduced so far sounds spot on.  A vet visit would be best, since you'll need something to treat the eye with and a general antibiotic to prevent any possible infection from spreading.  It doesn't have to be a serious problem, but once an infection starts it can cause bigger issues, so better to be on the safe side.  Since paper towels tend to get stinky faster than other beddings, be sure and change it out more than you normally would until you can buy more of your usual.  I wish I had more to say, but you've pretty much done everything right so far!

Best of luck, and I hope Sooty's eye feels better soon!
