QuestionHi,
My friend and I found a wild mouse and caught it. It doesn't seem to be injured and after jumping around for awhile, it calmed down and sat quietly in the corner. We have it in a large bucket covered in chickwire. We put in wood shavings and, since I have a pair of gerbils, gave it some feed. He ate some, but I still plan on buying some mouse feed. I am wondering if you have any advice on how to care for this mouse? I have never owned rodents other than gerbils and am a novice. Can you offer me some tips?
AnswerHi Christy,
Your wild mouse will never be happy in a cage. It would be cruel to keep it captive. Let it go in a meadow or forest over a mile from your home if you don't want it to return.
Mice do, however, make awesome pets. Much better than gerbils! They are smarter and tamer. I recommend looking at a mouse care book and then finding a pet mouse at a pet store or from a private breeder.
