Eye infection

Question
About two or three days ago, i noticed one of my one year old mice had a swollen eye. It seems like it is kind of popping out of her head because it's so big and i'm not sure if she can blink. There was some red crusty residue around the eye, it's now gone, but there is no fur around it. I think she has gone blind in that eye. Could you please tell me what sort of disease/infection could be and how i could try and cure/relieve my poor mouse!?
Thank you

Answer
All rodents can get eye infections, and if not treated soon they can ulcerate and cause serious eye damage, and even loss of an eye. I would get her to a vet asap to see if they might be able to save her eye. Most eye infections in mice are caused by upper respiratory infections, or trauma. Is there any chance she could have injured her eye? If she does have an uri it's best to treat it as soon as possible with antibiotics. Seeing as I am not a vet, I am unable to tell you how to treat it. =/ Most eye ulcers in rodents do tend to lead to eye loss, in which case the eye shrivels up and falls out. I would call around and see if you can get her in for an appointment. Good luck! I hope she feels better soon. =]
