Mouse eye problem

Question
Dear Natasha,
I woke up one morning and my mouse had a scratch by her eye. Then later it turned paler and foggy. She seems ok but i think she is blind in that eye. I was wondering if there is anything i could to to help her. Unfortuanatley I am unable to take her to the vet. Is there anything you know that could help her?
Thanks,
Isabella

Answer
Dear Isabella,

It's Ok for her to go blind-- pet mice don't need their eyes all that much-- not that it's a good thing, but that's not a real worry. The worry is infection. Please watch very carefully to see if the eye gets very red or especially if it swells or protrudes or you see a lump. In that case you will want to use antibiotics; write back or research my archives under tetracycline.

Best of luck.
