Baby mouse

Question
Hi Tamarah,

I asked you a question about my mouse with weird breathing hard episode before, thank you again for your help!

I have another question regarding my new baby mouse.
I just took her home and though pet shop staff told me he thought she was 2 months old, I think she is actually more like 3 weeks old. She is about 2 inches long ( without tail) or little less. She looks pretty good. Her droppings are good, eats well, very friendly, nice shiny coat.... but I have not seen her drink water from water dispenser, the kind of one with metal ball. I was wondering if she does not know how to?? I tried to give her a water by placing a small plastic cap of a bottle filled with water, but she would not drink it either. Its been 24 hours and I have not seen her yet to drink any water ( though of course I wouldn't know if she drunk during the night).

I was wondering if I have to do something special for a mouse this young to drink water?
I was thinking to soak some cracker in warm water to feed her or something like that?

Thank you again for your help in advance.

Answer
Hi Kiwi,

Chances are she's just drinking when you aren't watching, like you mentioned.  It's likely she's doing most of her hydrating at night, since mice are naturally nocturnal, but if you're worried about her, soaking a cracker or piece of stale bread in water is a terrific way to provide hydration!  You can also mark off the water bottle to watch for changes in the level.  Try tapping the end with your finger - does it immediately come out?  Sometimes the ball can get stuck in the sipper.
