Question
I have recently got 2 12wk olds. How often should they be given fresh fruit & veg?
Is it advisable to put vitamin c drops in their water?
How can I stop them weeing in their bed?
Will they be ok outside in a hutch through the summer?
Looking forward to your reply, thanks KP

Answer
Karen -

I would recommend feeding fresh fruits and veggies at least once a day - just be careful not to feed too much - a small amount is fine.

I wouldn't put vitamin c in the water because they will get it through their diet.  You only need to feed extra vitamin c in certain circumstances.

You don't need to control where they go to the bathroom.  Remember, they are animals - they will go wherever they want.  I have heard of people training their guinea pigs, but it isn't something I recommend.  I would just allow them to use the entire cage.

Whether or not they will be okay outside depends on a number of factors - the location of the hutch, how sheltered it is, your location (and the climate thereof), how protected the hutch will be, etc.  Here are some guidelines:
*guinea pigs need to be in a relatively temperature controlled environment - 65-75 (or 80 at the most)
*guinea pigs should never be exposed to rain or strong winds - they catch illness quickly and easily.
*guinea pigs should be protected from exposure to other animals, because they can catch diseases from quite a few different animals.

Hope this is helpful.  Let me know if you have any more questions.  Good luck!
