Ill ferret

Question
I have a ferret going on 4 years old. She has always been extremely healthy. She has 9 playmates all of which are doing excellent so I know it's not anything contagious. When she breaths it sounds as if she is drowning. She has also been running a fever and coughing. I've read up on megaesophagus and the symptoms are similar but she can eat and does drink. I know Tylenol is a no no for ferrets but im broke a desperate. I have been giving her 0.4 ml of baby Tylenol to keep the fever down which has been doing wonderful. I have also been administering amoxycillin. She has made marked improvement but its been 4 days now and the gurgling remains. What else can I do and what do you think the problem is. I've had ferrets for 15 years now and have never encountered this problem before. She has lost some weight but remains for the most part energetic. I catch her sometimes with her mouth open. her breathing originally was one breath every 10 seconds but after the continuation of medicine now she breaths normaly but gurgles. Any info would be great. Should I continue the meds and see where it goes or have her put down. I cannot afford a vet bill right now.

Answer
Unfortunately the only thing I can suggest is a vet visit. Some vets are willing to work on a payment plan if you ask. I have never encountered a gurgling ferret.

I would not have her put down if her quality of life can be salvaged. If a vet is 100% unattainable at the moment would you consider rescues or rehoming her? I know that rehoming a ferret is a very hard thing to do since they are essentially furbabies. But I would seriously consider it instead of having her put down when it could be something that requires a simple fix.
