Question
I have a year old Bichon Frise and he just started pooping in his crate and still is
not potty trained. I need help right away or I'm giving him away.

Answer
Potty training is hard work. You have to supervise and take him out more often than you think he needs. I would close doors, use baby gates and possibly tether him to you so he is not out of your sight. Did he come from a pet shop? Those dogs can be very hard to train because they didn't have an option of going out or keeping their area clean when they were little. When he pooped in his crate, was it solid? If diarrhea, he probably couldn't help it. What do you feed? High quality foods usually produce less waste material. How long had he been crated when he eliminated in there? Have you taught him any ways to let you know when he needs to go out? Do you go with him and make sure he is taking care of business - not just playing? I don't have any quick fixes to offer you, but a local trainer may be able to give you more advice based on observing your dog and his environment. Sandy Case MEd CPDT www.positivelycanine.com
