Evaluating shy/aggressive behavior

Question
I'd like your help evaluating the training needs of a purebred female "young adult" Norwegian Elkhound I found in an ad. She's been spayed.  The ad says she doesn't like the show ring.  She's shy until she gets to know you and your surroundings.  She is crate trained and uses a dog door.  She has not been around cats.  She doesn't like the owners other female dogs.  She likes to be the boss.
Is this an issue with a young dog needing mainly socializing?  The shy around people, yet aggressive toward female dogs, sounds like fear reactions.

Answer
Hello Carl,

It is probably multiple issues including socialization.

I'd guess that she is shy around humans because she hasn't had a
strong human leader to give her cues as to how to react to strangers.

The issue with other dogs is probably a socialization issue.

Good Luck!

Sandy
