Question
I just got a 7 week old english springer spanial. I was
wondering if she should start wearing a collar now or wiat
until she older, if so how old should she be ?   Thanks!

Answer
Hi Bob;
Yes. Let her wear a collar. Get one loose enough to get 2 fingers in, or one finger with a little room to soare, so it is not too tight, but you want it tight enough so she can't slip it over her head and off.
Check closely as she grows to keep it loose enough.
this will help her get used to something around her neck. Get a very short leash, and a very light weight one. I would get a little light weight leash for a small cat, and cut off quite a bit of it. Leave it only about a foot or less long.
Let her drag this a few minutes every day. Take the end of it and hold it gently. Tug just a bit after she is used to it.
When you put a leash on her, in just a few eeeks, it should not be scary for her, and will make it easier to leash train her.
The younger you get her used to the feel of the collar and leash, the better.
Then when she is a couple or 3 of months old, put a full leash on her, and just let her walk beside you on it.
don't start out trying to train her to leash ight away. Before you tug on it to make her heel, let her be used to it enough that you don't frighten her with it.
Hiope this answers what you need.
