chasing house cats

Question
I have 3 house cats ages 9,8,3 I rescued a 3rd old shepherd mix "Pika" in late Nov.06 When I brought her home I kept the cats in a seprate room with the door shut while I was at work opening the door keeping a gate in place so they could interact with me and get use to her. Pika did really well and seemed to adjust ok. My 8 &3 yr old cats have accepted Pika although they let her know when they don't want to be bothered. The problem is after 2 half months Pika has started to chase them especially my 9 yr old.Every time Pika sees him he chases him.The other 2 will swat her but my old man just runs. Pika has also started to try and chase cats while I'm walking her. I have tried everything telling her she's bad,a swat on the butt with a newspaper giving her a time out with a leash tied to a table leg. Our walks are great until she sees a cat and tries to chase it.I pull her back and tell her she's bad she gets really excited when she sees a cat. Lately she has been trying to look under cars while she's looking for a place to potty. She starts pulling on the leash or she won't listen when I talk to her. She doesn't like treats so all I have is verbal praise which I use all the time. I also have a hard time getting her to look at me when I'm talking to her while we're walking. I can lift her chin up and she pulls away.Sometimes I think she's ADH I love her to death but the cat thing is driving me crazy.

Answer
Well what you can do when she chases the cats in the house yell(and loudly)'leave it' and right then and there use a spray bottle and spray her face with water, and get her a crate(if you don't have one)and put her in there after that,so she really knows she cannot do that

As for walking her,try walking her on something called a prong collar,it looks harsh or cruel but it isn't,it does look it pokes the dog's neck, but what it actually feels like is like the mother dog when they grab a puppy by the neck to discipline it-anyways those are great tools for really strong dogs, and again when she goes after cats yell leave it and 'check' her back towards you

Since she doesn't like treats, you can try using squeaky toy and say 'look at me'
