rash on my yellow labs spade scar

My lab is over 3 yrs old and was fixed over 3 yrs old but she has a red wet looking rash about 3inches long on her spade scar. She also has food allergies so she's on venison dog food and benadryl as of 1 week ago. What should we put on red rash on belly?

Hi Nesha,

Thank you for writing to me about your Lab's rash.  The fact that your dog has developed food allergies is an important clue regarding the rash.  It's good that you switched your dog to venison but once a dog is allergic to one food, it can develop into additional allergies so the best approach is rotation...venison, lamb, beef, pheasant, fish, buffalo, etc.  How do I know this?  My own dog had developed extreme allergies and I've had to change her entire menu.  A great book is Dr. Pitcairn's Natural Health for Dogs and Cats.

Including the omega oils (3 & 6) in your dog's diet, building up slowly, offers dramatic support in the treatment of allergies and skin conditions.

As for the rash, you can try aloe, "Relief," (on line purchase), oatmeal baths, yogurt, Derma Ion-x (on line), etc but I am particularly interested in other symptoms that might point to a thyroid condition or estrogen deficiency or some other underlying medical cause.

I would therefore suggest that you have your vet look at the rash, especially since it is along the spade scar.  This is very unusual and be significant in regards to a more serious issue.
