Question
hi melissa!i bought a pit from my friend when it was still 2months of age.shes 2months now and turning 5 this november.her name was greta.she was not toilet trained.it was just feed on her cage and let her poop on it..the reason why i bought it is because of its muscular and frightful looks.i also have a rottweiler which is exactly the opposite of my pits behaviour.i'll just list my questions to you;
1.my problem is this..when i got my pit,it was not toilet trained.im having a hard time training my pitt because she was so stubborn when it comes to potty training.she doesnt pea on her cage,but,she always potty on it.i feed her at 12in the afternoon before i go to work and at around 9-10pm when i get home.after feeding her,i always take her outside her cage,tie her on our covered fence .i usually wait for 30 mins,but she has no definite bowel movement pattern.sometimes,she will potty 15-20mins after eating,or,she will just play,sleep and potty whenever shewants to..especially at night,after fedding her and tied already on our fence,she really don't potty..in the morning,when i wake up at 7,there shewas,stepping or sometimes lying on her potty..her cage is a little bit large because it was my rott's cage when it was younger.i also transferred her to a smaller cage,but still,she potties on it..i also tried house breaking spray,papaer training,but still,no use..im reall having a hard time with my pit and im already losing my patience..but i love my pit.i dont want to compare her with my rott,basti,but basti did notgive me a hard time training him..unlike this pitt..it seems that the only way for this pit to learn potty training is just a miracle...hope u can help me with this..God bless you..thanks..

2.what are the basics of training a pitt?in terms of obedience..what should i do to train her?

thanks again..

Answer
Your first issue is why you got this dog. For her muscular and frightful looks? You got her because she looks scary? You must FIRST re-evaluate why you got Greta.

I really don't want to come across mean, but I honestly think your best bet with Greta is to re-home her with a Pit Bull Rescue. From what I read you do not seem to WANT to train her. Leaving her in her cage all day is NOT appropriate. Find a pit bull rescue organization and let someone who has the time and experience give her a home.
