kennel and our lab

Question
Hi,
We put our dog in a kennel while we went away for two days. When we got back to pick her up she was very happy to see us. When we got home all she wanted to do was sleep, sleep, sleep. She was exhausted. She would not even play.  Also when we took her outside she acted like it hurt her to walk on the sidewalk and it was hard for her to go up the steps to the house when we went to let her in.  Could it of been from the hot cement outside at the kennel or paceing  back and fourth from nervousness?  There were alot of dogs there and maybe the barking kept her awake?  She is back to her old self now though after hours and hours  of sleep. I am just curious as to why she was so tired and why her feet hurt. Her feet are fine now. This was the first time she was in a kennel like this. The other time we had her at the vets but he had no room this time. She is two years old.

Thanks,
Janice

Answer
I am glad to hear she is OK now.  It is hard for a dog to understand being left in a kennel like that.  They don't understand human necessities.  Think about what kind of shape you are in after heat and stress.  Next time, perhaps contact the vet's office sooner if you can, or try a different kennel.

Once we were forced to find another kennel whe our vet was full.  Fortunately we found a nice place close by.
