bump on lip

Question
My 3 year old JRT developed a numb on his lip, sometimes it is red and sometimes it gets bigger and smaller. I've touched the bump, he doesn't seem to be in much discomfort. There is nothing on the inside of his lip where the bump is. He's up to date with all of his shots and in good health. We walk him often and allow him to run in a field behind our house. We also have a pickaneese and a tabby cat. They are both fine. I'm just concerned about my JRT, we love him so much and so do the kids. Thank you, Sincerely Naomi Crase

Answer
Hi Naomi,

I wish I could give you a definitive answer but without actually seeing or feeling it, it would be hard to guess. Because it changes, it might be a cyst, but it might also be a small tumor (and I don't mean cancerous, but that's always a possibility too). It might be an old cut or would that heals and then opens again? It could be an area that he always rubs and calloused?
Maybe it's an embedded tick? Very hard to say. The best advice I can give to you is to get it seen by a veterinarian to rule out anything dangerous. It's worth the cost to ease your mind and treat it if it's a rapid growth. Best of luck to both of you!!!
