Question
I have an adorable silky terrier.  The problem is she is the energizer bunny.  She never stops.  She is well socialized with humans and dogs.  However when someone comes over she goes berserk and won't stop.  She gets so excited she urinates all over.  When I take her to the pet resort for a play day...Their comments are she is extremely excited the whole time and actually overwhelms the other dogs. They say she plays rowdy and never ending.  She is not aggressive...just extremely hyper.  I have heard about Valerian Root Extract as a calming agent for these type of dog behaviors.  Do you think this would help.  Please advise.  As a note we exercise her every day.  She goes for 45 minute walks and we have two or three play periods every day where we have her fetch.etc. etc. So she gets plenty of exercise.HELP!!!

Answer
Hello Sandee and puppy!  This is puppy engergy and it will calm down in about 4-6 months.
I would get her involved in a puppy pre-school class ASAP.

Now, for supplements - how about you try 1 mg of Melatonin each day, ( every 24 hrs).
Melatonin is sold in a liquid or pill form.  This is not a medication - a natural supplement found at most health food stores.

Also, I would love to see her take 1 NuVET wafer per day.  NuVET is a vitamin supplement that will help to Balance out her body's systems.  If she is under 10 lbs, then just 1/2 a NuVET wafer per day :  Tell them pet nurse Marie sent you:

Ask for the 60 count bottle at 39.00 ( use order code 81098 for the 15% off program)

Ok, so not just a Play day but some Behavior classes with puppy foundations or pre-school.
Then, try the Melatonin and the NuVET Plus.

BEST wishes
