german shepherd nipped at me

I adopted a female german shepherd from the animal shelter.  She is about a year old and we have had her about two months.  She has been very submissive, attending doggy training and appropriate with the kids and pets.  Last night I went to kiss her while she was sleeping and she nipped at my face.  What should I do?

What you should do is never startle your dog again when she is sleeping.  A sleeping dog that gets startled is likely to do anything.  Bite, growl, snap etc.   If someone startles you out of a sound sleep, you are likely to fling your arms around as a defense mechanism, same as a dog.   Continue with your training and make sure the kids know to "let sleeping dogs lie". :-)
Sounds like you have gotten a good pet!  Enjoy her, and try to see her behavior from the dog point of view, not a humans.
