blood in dogs stool

Question
Kerri,

My cocker has been battling one of many ear infctions.  She has been to the vet and we are cleaning the ear and treating it with an anitibotic as instructed.  However, it has been several weeks and we think it is okay and in about three days, she starts this awful scratching.  Anyway, yesterday and today when she "used the bathroom,"  I noticed while the stool was "firmish,' there was some slimish blood with the stool.  The dog doesn't act like she feels bad. She isn't going to the bathroom any more or any less than usual.  She has left her breakfast untouched until later in the day than usual for the last two or three days. I just don't know what to think.  She is very cared for, and very loved.  Sydney goes to a groomer every 5 weeks. Has shots, etc. regularly.  Has been to the vet often with the ear and feet problem. The feet are okay now, but can't seem to get the ear problem behind us.
Sydney is about 8-9 years old.

Thank you for your help.

Answer
Hi Linda!
Yikes! You and me both have the same battle with the ear infections! It's very common in Cockers!
As for the blood in the stool, I think I would keep a close eye on it for the next few days...if she is still producing bloody stool...go for another vet visit. Blood in stool is nothing to fool around with. It may be an indication of something that is not working right inside her and may be corrected with early detection.

I wish you all the best!

Kerri
By the way, my mother's Jack Russell is also a "Sydney"!
