Question
I had a cocker spaniel from a friend about 7 months ago, she is a puppy about one year now, I feed her every morning
dog food "purina-beneful" I bought from petland and water, and sometimes I made homemade soup just make sure her caca
not too dry. and evening time, I fed her my own homemade food, whatever I eat, she eat the same plus some soup because she did not like water. and lunch time until afternoon, she always got some cookies or some snacks. every morning and evening, she had poop two times a day. now, someone made complain to ASPCA that they felt my dos is too skinny because when they touch her, they said they could feel her bones and they said that is not normal, after 10 weeks, aspca came to me and arrested me and gave me criminal summons offense chaged agm353,my question is how much amount of the food shall I feed her everyday? how can I prove she is very normal and healthy dog? I have more than 100 witness willing to witness this dog is healthy and active, very active.

Answer
It's a mistake to feed her "whatever you eat" because dogs digest food differently than we do.  And Purina isn't a good food.

I suggest canned food (and none of your soup).

You'll find better food at the smaller pet stores - although PetSmart now carries AvoDerm, which is a premium food.

If you go to Canidae.com you can find out where a dealer is in your area and Canidae All Life Stages (canned) is one of my favourites for cockers.

Have she had a stool analysis by your vet?  If she has worms/parasites this can be the reason she's not gaining weight.

And she should be fed more than once a day.  At her age she needs more food than an adult dog of the same weight.
