7-Month old Cocker who eats his poo

Question

Cimmeron Cody
Hi Delores,

I have a 7-month old male Cocker Spaniel, Cody. He is a house dog and the love of my life. He eats 'some' of his poo when he has an accident & goes inside, if outside - not interested in it at all.  I've tried to keep a vigilant schedule with him but he still surprises me.  I've tried remedies at pet stores to no avail.  I broke my ankle in June and decided that if I could do nothing, it would be to focus my attention on Cody and break him  from this nasty habit.  I have a fenced in dog-proof back yard and Cody's knows quite well what "Go Outside" means.  I take him out many times each day, I throw his ball until he is exhausted, etc.. I do not leave him outside all day because my previous dog was stolen right out of my backyard. However, I simply can not stop him from eating his poo.  He does seem to be eating less poo at this point. Are there any suggestions/advice that you might have on this matter?  Anyway, my Cody is who he is and I will always love him.

Thanks!
Helena

Answer
I love your last sentence!  It really made me smile and on many days I need that on this site :)

Now - this isn't unusual and "most" dogs will simply stop doing it at some point.  However, obviously it isn't good for him and I'm glad you're on it.

But..there are some issues here...why is he at 7 months still having "accidents" inside?  Have you really, really housebroken him?  I know you have a broken ankle right now (so sorry - that is painful and horrifyingly tedious) but before this, how long and how often is Cody walked?

Other questions:
What are you feeding him?  How often?
