clicky hip?

Question
hi, i have also noticed in the last two weeks that when our boxer sits or runs for a ball her back legs/hips are clicking. the breeder said that her hip test was ok, and when we took her to the vet he said she was ok when he checked her over (we were worried as shes white), it does not seem to bother her at all but i was told to give her castor oil or glucosamine for her joints (she is 5 months old)

thank you danielle

Answer
Hi Danielle,

Many of my Boxers clicked as puppies, too - it seems to be a growth-related thing, as they did all stop clicking once they matured.  :)  Since the vet didn't find any issues, and as long as she's not bothered at all by it, no lameness or favoring the leg etc., then I'd guess your girl is going through the same sort of thing.  I hadn't heard of castor oil for joints, but fish oil (fish body oil, not cod liver oil) is often used here, as is glucosamine - I don't think either prevent joint damage, but they help with pain/irritation if there is any.  (Fish oil is good for other things, too, like heart health, skin and coat, etc.)
