Question
Hi, my name is Nicole and I am the owner of a spoiled rotten male boxer! Our family is very excited about the possibility of adopting a boxer! My question to you is, would it be wise to get another boxer since ours has been our family dog for 4 years now? And if so, would it be better to get a female  or a male? We would love to get another boxer but not if it  will hurts our boxers feelings :( any input would be great, thanks!

Answer
Hi Nicole,

Boxers generally do very well having another dog in the house, and often seem to prefer the company of other Boxers.

Generally speaking, it is best to have opposite-sex pairs, to avoid intersex aggression issues. While fighting may occur between males and females, it occurs more often with male-male and female-female pairings. It does depend on the individual dogs, of course, so you want to be sure you have compatible personalities.

Basic good manners training and establishing yourself as the overall "maker of the rules" can help avoid issues, too, of course.

Good luck!
