Is my Bichon Frise jealous of my baby

Question
Hi In Feb I gave birth to my daughter - On the night of her birth the 1 Bichon (Jack) attacked the other Bichon (Tigger)- We put this down to been something in the air.  Unfortunately since coming home this has happened 3 more times.  Is he jealous of our daughter and taking it out on the younger dog? Please can you give me some advice on how to stop this and would he ever go for the baby?  I never leave them alone with her but I am concerned that when she starts to craw will this become a problem.

Many Thanks

Answer
The dogs are displaying jealousy in pack order. Yes they will also show some signs of jealousy towards the child this is normal, I suggest that you do not leave the dogs alone with any child no matter how much you trust them. I would give some play time towards the dogs at the moment wgen baby is asleep and start to introduce the dogs to her daily so its just part of a bigger pack for them.Dont be nervous allow them to lick her hands whilst you are there, smell her and yes also smell her dirty nappy etc, talk to the dogs tell them who she is, but most importantly have some doggy time too and play with them both. Always remember that the boss in anyones household is the owner .

The dogs need to learn the new pecking order which will be
YOU
HUSBAND
CHILD
VISITORS
THEM

if you share your time all will fall into place quite well. Unlike most breeders and dog owners I also have kids and have been through this on many occasions.Relax and enjoy all the smaller ones within the house and leave the rest to nature.
