Question
hi kaza
i have spoken to you before as i have a 2 year old called dougal.  i have this week just received my new puppy lily 8 weeks old.   my problem is that when she wakes during the night she cries until i come down to the kitchen.  i have let her cry up to 1.5hrs.  what is the best way to deal with this.  normally i would just let her cry herself to sleep but it never happens and i worry about the children the neighbour etc being disturbed. yesterday we kept her awake most of the day but she woke at 3am and that was the start of the howling.    Help

Answer
HI Janette
its important that she is crated at this tender age and by doing that she will feel more secure, cover x 3 sides of the crate with a cover and this makes it more den like, rather similar to how her real mummy would have hidden her after she was born. She will only cry for a few days at most, but the more you come down and interfere with her learning process the longer it takes to break her habit, remember she is very young and will demand attention from you her humum.
Place a warm blanket in her crate , cover like ai said and use a radio on classic FM on a low volume, , you can also use a snuggle puppy (THEY ARE BRILLIANT)http://canisgrooming.co.uk/boutique/snuggle-puppies/
If you go to my website www.eurobichons.com an join it we have a letter that can be printed off for neighbours asking for their patience during these few days of transition.
Good luck
Kaza
