Question
hi,we have a female 2 yr old bichon frise.she is a great little thing, great personality and although she is 2 yrs, most folk think she is a puppy as she is so active and puppy like.no health probs .

we have been feeding her dry food james belbeloved most of her life, with little chicken now and then.
however over past month we have given her daily small portion of wet food along with dry.natrual chicken it is with brown rice and veg,buy it from pets at home,we mash it and she likes it warm.
says on pack 100% natural.
just wondering if that ok?iv always heard best to feed a good quality dry food/best for diet and teeth etc.
do you think we should cut out the wet.just she seemed to be getting fed up with dry all the time.wasnt going to her bowl all day.
hope to hear from you thanks

Answer
Hi Molly firstly a healthy bichon is one that you describe full of fun etc, please try to avoid a dry diet , they do not have any impact on teeth cleanliness whatsoever but can lead to struvites, stones and oxylates in the bladder. If you really must feed dry diet then for at least 3 days per week use a natural meat and vegetable based diet , also try to give cranberry supplement in the diet to counteract any possibiliy of urinary or bladder stones etc.
Also try to avoid feeding a wet food with dry complete feed, otherwise in a short space of time you will have a fatty bichon that wont be so energetic.
Dogs also do not require carbs of high content in their diet, they are carnivores and as such require a good protein based diet doesnt have to be high protein but she be good quality.
