House training

Question
I have a 7 month old male Bichon. We love him! He is wonderful with our children and has the very best disposition.  House training him has been hard and has just gotten worse!  He was crate trained and no longer urinating in the house; we were working on poo.  He doesn't seem to have any "signs" that he needs to go outside for potting and I mostly feel like it's an all day guessing game!  We recently boarded him at an excellent kennel (pet resort) for our vacation and now he is urinating in the house AND even twice in his crate.
He's been back home with us for 10 days but continues to potty in the house.  Our vet put him on meds in case he has a UTI but we don't know yet about lab results.

I am confused about what to do now! We take him out very often and even leave him in the back yard but he is not interested in learning to potty only outside.  Should I back up to a beginning stage of house training? More crate time; less free time?  What is a good time schedule to follow? My husband is frustrated and wants me to "fix" this right away!
Thanks,
Shellie
