bichon hair after grooming

Question
Our Bichon is a 6 month old females. She was groomed for the 2nd time about 3-4 weeks ago and as the hair grows it is not curly. Is this normal? Is this a permanent condition or will hair curl again in time?

Answer
Hello Dick
yes this is quite normal at her age. As she gets older the coat will thicken and will become far denser and her undercoat will develop. This then allows the second coat to curl and stand up when groomed. Some dogs however have a wavy appearance to their coat and alot does depend upon the two parents used. The more we inbreed (line breed) or as its now known selectively breed two dogs the more prevalent different aspects of the dog will either be enhanced or lost.
I have several bichons and only half of those have a thick tight curl at adulthood. others have wavy dense elongated curls and others have a very wavy coat.
She will be fine.
