My Cat always mew

Hi Tabbi,
I have a cat(male)and its with us for 1year. The owner left the cat and went some other country. since then we look after it. but there has been a strange behaviour of this cat.since last month night before sleeping he starts to cry to go out of the house and morning at 4 he starts crying again to come in the house and searches for food. once he's done with the food again he cries to go out.I cant understand why he keeps crying all the time and only since 1month.
Please help me out.

Is the cat neutered? If not, that will help alot.

His crying is his way of communicating what he wants, ie going outside, coming inside, etc. Also he has figured out that crying gets him what he wants, so he will continue.

Crying could also be a sign of pain. You may want to take him to the vet for an exam.
