Question
hi, i have two persian cats about 10 months old.  One of them has longer hair than the other.  She sheds a lot.  I do comb her everyday almost twice a day.  Is this normal that she sheds a lot.  Is there a time frame to comb her?

thanks in advance for any suggestions.

Answer
What you describe is normal for a full coated Persian. Unfortunately, while they are wonderful, loving cats and make great pets, they are also very high-maintenance and do indeed require daily combing. Do you ever bathe her? If you do not think you can do this yourself, try taking her to a professional groomer. Bathing will get rid of a lot of the excess hair and you will probably be able to scale back to combing her only once a day. Also, there are a number of food supplements available that are supposed to reduce shedding. I personally can't recommend any from my own experience but it can't hurt to try one. My favorite supplier is www.revivalanimal.com, they have a lot of things that you will not find at your local Petco. Check out their web site for shedding remedies.

Hope this helps.
