Kitty eating pinecones

I have noticed my kitty (standard American shorthaired tabbby) will sometimes take the pine cones out of the backyard and crack them open and chew on the inside.  I've never seen a cat do this and just wondered is this harmful.  Thank you.

Hi Joy,

I checked my list of poisonous plants for cats and there is nothing about pinecones. How does he react afterwards? If he doesn't show any signs of distress then I would say it's ok. I have never heard of this before. But cats do some strange things. Good luck.
