Kitties, 2 weeks old, eyes

Question
Our cat had 7 kittens exactly 2 weeks ago today.  The babies seem to be doing fine, healthy and gaining weight.  One of them has one eye open and the other is closed with a crust on the lid. Previously I recall the eye slightly open at the center but now it seems to be closed shut.  I have read that the eyes do not open necessarily together but I have also read about a development of a crust.  I was wondering is this something that should pass or can I do something to help the baby or should I take the baby to a vet?  Otherwise the little guy looks great.  How can I help?

Answer
hi Jeff, it is VERY important to keep those eyes clean. Just use a warm wet paper towel and clean that crust off. Do not use the same towel on another eye...get a clean towel for each eye that may need to be cleaned. The kittens could be carrying a virus in their eyes or it may just be a bacterial infection but either way if the eyes are sealed all that bad stuff is breeding underneath that wet warm closed lid so get it open. Do not force it open just clean it really really well. If it keeps crusting up even with your efforts over the next couple of days you should see a vet for some eye drops.
