How long does it take a cat to deliver the afterbirth?

16:13:32

Question
My cat had kitten late Friday night into Saturday morning.  All three were still born.  This afternoon I noticed a fleshy redish-purple object hanging out of her vagina.  I called my vet where they said it was just the afterbirth.  How long does it usually take to deliver that?  It's going on 7 hours since I first noticed it and I'm getting worried.

Answer
Call your vet again and tell them that your cat still hasn't passed the afterbirth. They may have you bring her in for some quick assistance.

If your cat will let you, you may massage her belly with a moist, warm wash cloth and that may help her pass it.
