Pregnant Cat, 1st still born, no others born

Question
My cat is very young. Not even a year old yet (birthday was February 13, 2007)We aren't sure exactly when she got pregnant but this is her first litter. Last night at around 11 P.M. she very quickly gave birth to a still born kitten, it looked very underdeveloped. The fetus and other tissue came out with no connection to the mother cat. It seemed to give her very little discomfort. After that we waited for more to come but nothing happened. We're sure there must be more kittens but shes back to her normal routine. Shes eating regularly, her belly is still very large, and nipples are still swollen. Is it possible for her to still be pregnant but not yet ready to give birth even after that one kitten came out?
Were keeping her in a secluded room with lots of towels, food, and water, checking in on her regularly. Any information would be extremely helpful.
Thank you,
Ashley

Answer
+++YIPEE !!! that is good news.. maybe she will even have a couple more?! +++

Hi Ashley, it is possible for her to carry on with a pregnancy but that is a very unusual thing to happen. Most likely this is it !! Do keep an eye on her and keep her where you have her for at least another 3 days. Watch for any distress in her, not eating, mucky or smelly discharge, etc... If she starts acting listless or shows any of these other symptoms you will need to get her checked right away.. and personally if it was my cat I would get  her checked Monday anyways. This is not a  normal event. Teresa
