cat had kittens during the night

we knew she was pregnant and we had set up a place where she would nest. during the night she had her kittens on our couch where she usually didn't lay. all her kittens were dead when we seen them. we aren't sure what happened because it didn't look like they were harmed. i just wanted to ask, what u think may have happend and if she senses that they aren't there or how she feels?

In all likelihood something went wrong during the last few days and the kittens were stillborn. I would strongly suggest that you have your kitty spayed so that she doesn't contribute to the serious overpopulation issues that plague mixed breed cats and kittens. Mixed breed cats and kittens are put to sleep every day for the simple reason that there are just not enough homes to meet the demand. I would also suggest that you find out what the local laws are for disposing of the dead babies. In most municipalities it is the law that the kittens must be disposed of by a veterinarian which usually means that they are cremated and their ashes are disposed of. I am sure that your kitty tried really hard to save her little ones, I also believe that she is upset by the loss of her babies, but as I said I believe that spaying her is the best option so that she doesn't have to go through the trauma of dead kittens or contribute to an already serious overpopulation problem.
