Question
hi my cat kept coughing, i thought it was a hair ball so i bought hair ball remedy, that didn't work so i took her to the vet and got something for hair ball, it worked for a few days and then she started coughing again and still has a persistent cough.  Tell me what can I do.

Answer
Teresa,

If your cat is still eating and drinking and using the litter pan normally, I would not worry too much, as it may even just be allergies.

However, if your cat is off her food and water and generally miserable, and there is a dry cough like a hairball cough, but no hairballs are produced, I would suspect bordatella (also known as kennel cough).  It is only in the last many years that veterinarian researchers discovered cats can contract bordatella.  It is treatable with the correct antibiotics, which your vet can get for you.

Remember I am not a vet, but this is something many vets overlook as they think of bordatella as being a dog disease, only.

Best regards... Norm.
