Hello Ellen!

My big, orange Maine Coon cat has black specks in the white fur under his chin.  They are tiny, loose specks that I can pull out.  When I investigate futher into the fur, there seem to be a TON of them.  Do you think he just has a dirty chin, or might this be a more serious skin condition?

MMMMmmm Main Coons!  My clinic cat is a show champion queen :) They are adorable cats.

What you are describing sounds like chin acne. Using a flea comb helps loosen the dirt up and out. BUT you can wipe his chin daily with witch hazel to help keep it clean. Sometimes even using a stridex pad(lowest concentration) does help too.

Watch for lump and bumps that turn to white heads- they can abcsess.
