Question
QUESTION: Hi there

Please can you tell me how many times a year a bull terrier bitch will go on heat.

Many Thanks
Jade

ANSWER: Most dogs go into heat every 6 months. This can vary by a month or two either way. The best time to get her spayed is BEFORE her first heat. That will cut down the risk of her getting breast cancer later in life.

QUESTION: Thank you for your reply.

My female bull terrier desperately needs a friend. she is very aggressive and this has made adoption impossible. the only way, I think , we can get her a friend is by her having her own babies. Do you agree with this or is there another alternative?

Many Thanks
Jade

Answer
No, I do not agree with that at all. Aggressive females are good at killing their own young too. The best thing to do with this dog is get her spayed, the sooner the better. Spaying will reduce a huge amount of this dogs aggressiveness. It might not reduce it all, good training will do the rest.

There is no reason for to breed this dog, and remember that aggressive dogs usually pass that trait on. Something you do not want to do.

So please get this dog spayed and you will see some results in about two months or less after you get her spayed. But breeding her is not what you should do.

You will have a much happier dog and you will have less liability if you get her spayed soon.
