Question
I have a 55 gallon tank that I am in the process of changing to a saltwater tank. How much live rock will i need? I have been told from 5 to 80 pounds. Also the eels that I plan on getting are the snowflake and either a black moray or a chainlink eel. Are there any other fish that I can put in there? I was thinking about a lionfish or possible a trigger. Also I know that Lionfish are poisonous, but are they deadly?  I know this is a lot to answer and I appreciate the help that you will give me.

Thanks,
Mark

Answer
Hello Mark,

Glad to help, if possible.

The amount of rock is flexible, and dependant on many things,  Usually in 'agressive' tanks, folks use less rock, then those that keep corals

I would not really worry about the 'weight' of the rock, but rather go with what you like and feel good about with respect to looks. I am guessing that what you will want to look at will also satisfy the 'biological' organisms

As for mixing, any of those fish should be ok.

good luck and please keep me posted as how things work out for you.

btw, please check out my new forum at www.thelittleocean.com

it has a live chat room and a BLOG to start and keep a journal on your tank, and get comments and feedback from other reef members.

it is relatively new, and sometimes I or no one may be online at the time you are, but please be patient, members log on at differnt times and will probably log on shortly...

hope to see you there.,
