water lilies and fish

Question
My new queen of siam water lily is getting eaten in my pond,
maybe by my fish or the red slider turtle. Each time a leaf sprouts,
something's chewing it off at the stem. Any insights, suggestions?
My fish are comets, a shebunkan.

Answer
Hi Rob,
Thanx for your question.  I don't think it's the fish.  I've had these kind of fish before and really haven't noticed that they harm the plants as much as I think the turtle would.  Can you put the turtle in a separate cage for a while and see if the damage stops?  If it stops, I'd get rid of the turtle.  I hope this helps.
