Advice on products for pond use

Question
I have contacted my local aquatic centre for some stress coat and melafix/primafix for my pond koi which have been attacked by a local cat. The aquatic centre said that these products are for aquarium use only and should not be put in the pond. Please can you advise? Many thanks.

Answer
Hi Maranda:  Stress Coat, malafix and pimafix have variations that are made for the pond setting.  The dosage is usually higher because of the great water volume.  I would contact a pond center in your area and see if they have any medication that is made for the pond setting.  You could use the aquarium variation of the medicine but it will cost you a small fortune to does your water volume.  You can also sometimes find pond stuff on ebay if you do not have a pond supplier closer to you.  You can also visit www.tetra-fish.com which is the website of the tetra brand of products for both ponds and aquarium.  They should have a dealer locator on their site.   I hope this helps... dave
