Question
Hi Chris,
I got a ten gallon aquarium for my birthday and have had it set up and running with fish in it for a little over two weeks now. Cycling is going good. I have low amounts of ammonia, nitrites and nitrates. pH and everything else is good. well, i was doing a 25% water change because my one fish has ich and i am treating it with a medicine and i do a 25% water change before i put in the medicine every day. I noticed that there were small baby fish in the bucket i was siphoning the water into. (Apparently I bought a pregnant sword tail) So i quick ran to a pet store and got a floating breeder to put the fish into so they wouldn't be eaten. Now that i have a fish in there, i have no idea what to do with it. as far as feeding or even with the ich medicine i am treating the water with. Do you have any advice on what to do with the little guy? I'd really like to give him the best chance that i can. Thanks!

Nathan

Answer
Hi Nathan;

Just feed him regular fish food crumbled really small. Once he gets big enough that he can't be eaten you can release him into the tank with the other fish. Sometimes ick medicine is harmful to babies. Look at the label and if it says to use a half dose for sensitive fish, use half the normal dosage. If it doesn't say, let me know which one you are using and what the ingredients are and I should be able to help.

The water changes are the best thing to do for all the fish. The tank is still in the break-in period so the water changes will hopefully keep the toxins down to a safe level. You're doing a great job in caring for your fish. Keep up the good work!
