New aquarium!

Question
Hi Stephanie,

I have just got a new tank and got 2 mollies last week.  I have the temperature set to the recommended temperature but as I live in the UK and the weather is temperamental I am concerned as to whether I should be altering the temperature daily to cope with the changes.

Also,  I work odd hours and although I am getting a timer for the light plug I am also concerned about the amount of light they need.  They aren't in the direct sun but my flat is quite light in the day.  Does the normal light count as the light hours, in which case I should not put it on so long at night?

Thanks, they are doing ok I think, I'm just trying to make sure i am doing the right thing!

Answer
Hello,

If you have a good heater it should be able to maintain your tank at a constant temperature without constant alterations. As for lighting, having your timer set for a max of around 8 hours per day should be suitable. You can have the light on during light hours of the day, and if the 8 hour period extends into the dark hours as well, that is fine too.

I hope this helps. Best of luck with your new tank!

Regards,
Stephanie
