Question
Hello, I have noticed very small grey/white mites gathering on the black hood/top edges of my fresh water aquarium. I took on e of these mites and viewed it under my sons microscope and it really is an ugly thing. There are hundreds of them crawling around the aquarium. I hate them and dont want to go near the aquarium because I dont know if they are a danger to me. What can I do?

Answer
Hi Troy;

I've seen those before too and they are not harmful. Just a bug that likes to be beside water. You would see the same things on the shores of lakes and ponds. There are some that are seen on the top of the water too. They float there like dust.

The last time I had them on or near a tank I just kept the top edges and crevices of the lid cleaned up with a dry rag and they eventually went away. They seem to like slimy areas that stay damp.
