Question
My mom accidently poured my betta out of his cup before she dumped him in his tank, so in a quick reaction she put him in hot water that was next to the sink, now he is floating on his side, but he is still alive. what should i do? is he just stressed out from all the commotion?

Answer
Heather,

How hot is hot water? It might be shock. Set his tank heater to 82 degrees, but if you don't have you need to get one. If you have a heater set lower gradually raise the temp no higher than 84 degrees. Make sure it is done gradually, maybe one degree a day. Here is an example of hat i mean. You know when a diver comes to the surface too fast, he gets whats call the bends. He then has to be brought up gradually so that the body gets back to normal. That is the same thing that happens to the Betta fish when the water temp changes drastically. I would lower his water level so that its easier to get air. I would get what's called a Betta hammock. It is a leave that is stuck to the side of the tank in a suction cup. You can bend it to the right angle and your fish will lay on it. It might help him stay upright. I will warn you that he might have suffered damage to his organ and even his brain, and that he might not make it. Let me know if anything changes or if you have any more questions.
