Question
My 2 year old Betta fish was trying to swim to the bottom of his tank this morning, but he kept floating to the top and couldn't swim back down. he has been swimming on his side for about 3 hours! I don't know what to do! How do I get rid of his air bubbles? And is he going to die if the air bubble don't stop/

Answer
Peyton,

Sounds like swim bladder. No need to worry it is normally taken care of and the fish will be ok. What do you mean by air bubbles and wanting to stop them? Below you will find instructions on how to help him with his swim bladder. Make sure your Betta is in a 5 gallon tank and a heater set at 82 degrees. You have to make sure you do 25% water changes every week to ensure he has clean fresh water. Make sure to add a water conditioner to any water you add to his tank. One of the main reasons they get swim bladder is over feeding and bad water quality. If the feeding of the pea does not help or he gets worse let me know.

Feeding frozen pea:

Remove the sick fish and put them in your hospital tank. Fast them for 2 days, on the 3rd day take a frozen pea and put it in hot water. This thaws it out and cooks it. Remove the shell from the pea and throw it away. DO NOT feed the shell to your fish, they cannot digest it. Cut the inside of the pea in small pieces and feed them to your fish. Fast them again for another 2 days. If they are still bloated, repeat the whole process.
