Question
QUESTION: So is marine salt, just rock salt?
I feel horrible about this and am very thankful i found you online, i don't have enough money to buy a 10 gallon tank so i think i will try get him better and than find a good home for him.

is the 5 litre big enough for a quarantine tank? i have taken out all the rocks and objects in case they still have the bacteria.

Cheers
Tess

ANSWER: Hi Tess,

The 5 liter is large enough for a quarantine tank.

Marine salt is far better than rock salt, because it is enhanced with trace elements, minerals and clacium as well as other important things for sick fish.  It is for that reason that I recommend using it above and beyond the rock salt.

I'm glad you read the article and I'm glad you love him enough to help him. :)

QUESTION: Where can I find this Marine Salt from?
Do they sell it in pet stores or are they also sold for different purposes?

And I love him to bits.

cheers
Tess

ANSWER: Hi Tess,

They sell it in pet stores, yes.  You can usually buy a small box for about five dollars at Petco.

They are sold for marine, saltwater aquariums.  Sometimes Wal Mart sells fish salt or aquarium salt, but that isn't as nutritious as marine salt is, which has added nutrients...either will work, however.  I do prefer the marine, personally, but if you have rock salt, you can use that as well.

You cannot use sidewalk or idodized salt.

QUESTION: Hey Renee

Great thanks,
I'll go to my nearest pet shop and ask them if they have any, in nz, dunedin, we have a per warehouse which is very small, and pet planet, those are the only pet stores i know of, so I'll try my best and let you know how it goes.

Since i haven't been able to get ahold of the salt yet i have been cleaning his tank 50% the last two days to keep it as clean as possible. Is this right?

Tess

Answer
Try the rock salt.  Any store should sell it for making icecream.  If not, try looking for Kosher salt.  These all work.

I would love to know how it goes...and very best wishes to you through this.

Yes, changing the water is the best thing you can do.
