Question
Hi, I'm in the UK. A white fantail pigeon arrived in my yard about 2 months ago and feeds on the seed we put out for other wild birds. The pigeon hangs about most of the day but goes off somewhere late afternoon then returns early morning.  Problem is she leaves dropping all over the yard and my 18 month old grand daughter plays there. I'd stop feeding the birds to discourage the pigeon but then wonder what will happen to it. Will she go elsewhere?

Answer
Hi, Rodie,

I'm sorry for responding late to your question(s).  I was hospitalized and trying to catch up.

Yes, if you stop feeding the birds, they will go elsewhere to find food.  Survival is the name of the game and this bird won't hang around if there is no food.  Perhaps you can offer feed at some other location on your property where your granddaughter can't access any droppings, but you can still feed the birds.
