Question
What could make my red fronted conure loose its stomach feathers and what can I do about it. I feel terrible but I just noticed it this morning.

Answer
Hi, Anna.

If your bird is female and incubating eggs, she has plucked her stomach feathers to make a brood patch so she can keep her eggs warm enough.  If she isn't sitting on eggs, then your female has plucked her stomach/chest feathers most likely due to psychological issues.  Plucking these feathers usually takes more than a few days.  If neither of these applies, then your bird could have some other health issue going on.  What you can do about it depends on the reason for the feather loss.  If psychological reasons, you'll need to determine the reason(s) and fix the problem(s) in order to correct the negative behavior.  You may need to consult with an avian veterinarian to determine if other medical reasons exist for this behavior.
